Kamath is also an active early-stage investor and mentor to startups. His first investment was in Mobme, the company that co-founded Startup Village. He also recently invested in Kochi-based startups – Pling and Sastra Robotics. Born and brought up in Kochi, Kamath, after graduating from IIT Kharagpur, joined D E Shaw Software at Hyderabad. But he left the firm to join PartyGaming, an online gaming startup. PartyGaming grew to list on the London Stock Exchange in 2005 with a $10 billion market cap. He came back to India two years later and co-founded Next Education, which today serves over 10,000 schools and 10 million students across India and the Middle East. Next Education is a K-12-focussed technology-based education solution provider. Its flagship products like TeachNext, LearnNext, MathsLab, ScienceLab and EnglishLab are used in over 6000-plus schools across the country, transforming the lives of over six million students. Next Education products are primarily mapped to cover CBSE, ICSE and 23 state boards in eight major Indian languages.
