Mahila Apparels Revolutionalizing the Garments Sector
Led by Gracy Thomas, Mahila Apparels at Angamaly, an umbrella of apparel manufacturing clusters, is undertaking a silent revolution in Kerala’s garments sector. At present there are 73 units functioning under this garment-making cluster, which together has a turnover of Rs. 1.25 crore annually and employs more than 750 people. The products manufactured by the company include surgical gowns, gents’ shirts, ladies kurties, uniforms and kids wear. Apparels are being manufactured for domestic as well as export markets.
Mahila Apparels registered 75 per cent growth in revenue between 2015-16 and 2017-18. In association with the State Industries Department, Mahila Apparels is setting up a 40,000-sq.ft. garment design factory with advanced facilities. The Rs. 11-crore project will have space for individual units with 50 to 75 workers each as well as a training institute. For her commendable work as an entrepreneur, the Kerala Government honoured Gracy Thomas in 2015 by bestowing Best Woman Entrepreneur of the State award.
