Land Allotment at Sabarimala to be Completed Soon: Minister
Thiruvananthapuram: Steps to allot 76 acres of land to Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) to increase facilities for pilgrims at Sabarimala will be completed this month, according to Kadakampally Surendran, Kerala Devaswom Minister.
Though the State Forest Department had earlier handed over the land to the TDB, its boundaries had not been clearly demarcated. “A joint survey of Forest and TDB officials will be conducted this month itself to complete the transfer procedures. S Harikishore IAS, Pathanamthitta District Collector has been asked to coordinate the task,” the Minister said here the other day after presiding over a meeting to review the arrangements for the Mandalam-Makaravilakku pilgrimage season at the hill-shrine.
The meeting decided to evict the encroachments at Sabarimala and lay the boundary stones for the ‘Thiruvabharanapatha.’ Over 800 personnel will be deployed under the Punyam-Poongavanam project to clean Sabarimala and Pampa.
Several decisions pertaining to ‘aravana’ plant, emergency medical centres and other healthcare facilities, and campaign against plastic ban were taken at the meeting. The meeting also finalised measures to provide drinking water to the pilgrims and repair roads leading to Pampa for the pilgrimage season.
Pinarayi Vijayan, Kerala Chief Minister, will preside over the next review meeting in the first week of July.
