Thiruvananthapuram: ‘Go Solar’ project at Magic Planet was inaugurated by M M Mani, Electricity Minister, Kerala. At a time when the entire state is facing severe electricity shortage, the Magic Planet initiative of ‘Go Solar’ is a vital step and a valuable contribution to the Electricity sector, said the Minister. Solar energy is the only energy which can be ‘imported’ without any cost, he said, congratulating the Magic Planet team for implementing ‘Go Solar’ project and thereby setting a valuable model to society at large.
Mani, together with Gopinath Muthukad, magician and creator of Magic Planet, and Kadakampally Surendran, Tourism Minister, symbolically inaugurated the project by switching on a bulb by a mere touch. The moment the hand was released from the bulb, it was switched off.
Kadakampally Surendran presided over the function. Hari Kumar, Director, ANERT; Gopinath Muthukad; Chandrasenan Mithirmala, Director, Magic Academy; and Jin Joseph, Manager, Magic Planet were also present. It was with the support of ANERT that Power One Micro Systems Ltd. installed the solar panels on Magic Planet premises. Gopinath Muthukad said that in Kerala, the biggest share of electricity consumption is by households. “If proper care is given while using electricity for daily needs, we can save around 400 kw of electricity,” he said. The major objective of the project will be to make Magic Planet visitors aware of the methods of energy saving and its benefits.
