Dignitaries, Business Leaders, Friends Bid Farewell to Kunnappally
Thiruvananthapuram: The mortal remains of Mathukutty J Kunnappally, Founder and Editorial Chairman of Destination Kerala business magazine, were consigned to flames at Shanti Kavadam near Thycaud at 3 pm on
Wednesday. The cremation was held following prayers at his residence at Prashant Nagar in Thiruvananthapuram where his body was kept for the public to pay last respects. Kunnappally passed away on December 26 at around 1.30 am after prolonged illness.
Eminent personalities, people’s representatives and his former colleagues paid last respects at his residence. In a journalistic and literary career spanning almost four decades, he had contributed profusely to Malayalam dailies like Deepika and Janayugom apart from magazines, including Kerala Sabdam, Chitrabhoomi, Grihalakshmi and Nana. He had also published 30-odd books, in both Malayalam and English, covering genres like travel writing, biography, sports and world literature. Winner of the State Television Award for his TV programmes review column in 1991 and 1993, Kunnappally was also the member of the State Television Award Jury twice. Mathukutty Kunnappally is survived by wife Aleyamma (former employee of Regional Cancer Centre, Thiruvananthapuram) and sons George Kunnappally and Jose Kunnappally.
