Suman Suresh Blissful Behind the Wheel of This Hatchback

Thiruvananthapuram: The community of high-end car buffs in India is relatively small, especially among women. Not many are eager to drive a hi-tech four-wheeler, let alone own one. But that is not the case with Suman Suresh, the Managing Director of Krishnan Nair and Sons. She is a proud gearhead who loves to drive around in her recently-acquired Volvo 40 R-Design.

Suman, who looks after her family business in Thiruvananthapuram, is really crazy about three things; cars, watches and music. This passion for cars made her buy a diesel variant of Volvo V40 R-Design.

“Buying this new vehicle was not an easy decision for me. From deciding on the make to switching over to a diesel variant, the choices were difficult to make. But now, I do not regret my decision. I am more than satisfied with the make and the way the company responded to my queries regarding the vehicle,” says Suman.

The family has been possessing German-made cars, mostly sedans, for quite some time, she says. Displaying the same passion like her late father, she also had gone for a Mercedes sometime back. But now she prefers hatchbacks.

“Boot Space: 324 LI have been searching for a sporty and powerful hatchback for the last three years. I like powerful cars and my priority was a powerful hatchback. Finally, I zeroed in on Volvo. It was launched as a safety car. And I go too much into technicalities when I buy a car. But unfortunately not many high-end brands have hatchbacks,” she says.

Although one cannot spot many Volvo V 40s on the roads of Kerala – primarily because it is yet to catch the fancy of high-end auto buyers, the engine housed inside the metal body of the hatchback is an engineering marvel. Volvo has made some alterations to the exterior of the car. As far as comfort level inside the car is concerned, Suman is awed, terming it ‘heavenly.’ Undoubtedly, it was the looks of the car which made her fall for it. “Low clearance adds to the look of the car. But on rough and bumpy roads it could lead to underbody bashes, unless the driver is careful.”

While most car buffs stay away from diesel variants as they tend to make a ‘lot of noise,’ Suman says that Volvo has done a “very commendable job to make the driver feel comfortable inside the car.’’ “In short, I have purchased a good car without compromising on my priorities,” says the proud owner of the Volvo V40 R-Design. Suman purchased her dream hatchback from Kerala Volvo in Kochi.
