CII Kerala Team Woos Medical Tourists from Oman at IMTEC 2018

Kochi: A team of CII (Confederation of Indian Industry) Kerala delegates attended the International Medical Tourism Exhibition and Conference (IMTEC) held in Muscat, Oman recently. This is in the backdrop of medical tourism witnessing a steady growth in India as well as other countries.

IMTEC is Oman’s only trade event for medical tourism and healthcare industries. The aim of the CII Kerala delegation was to promote health tourism in the State. The CII delegation included officials from 13 hospitals representing both Ayurveda and modern medicine. The event was an opportunity for the participating hospitals to meet and interact with the Ministry of Health Officials of Oman and also representatives of the industry.

IMTEC 2018 was inaugurated by Dr. Saleh Bin Salim al Rahbi, Secretary General of His Majesty the Sultan’s Advisors office. Dr. Saji Kumar, Chairman, CII Kerala delivered the special address on medical tourism in India at the inaugural session. The IMTEC Exhibition 2018 was inaugurated by Indra Mani Pandey, Ambassador of India, Sultanate of Oman. The event showcased 40 Indian exhibitors from various hospitals in India. Other countries such as Germany, Thailand, Russia and Malaysia also participated in the exhibition. A large number of Omani patients were provided with an out-patient treatment facility at the exhibition where doctors provided consultation.

The 13 hospitals from Kerala had an exclusive interaction with 100 members of the Malayali social club. They were also invited to an India-Oman Business-to-Business (B2B) meeting organised by the embassy of India, Muscat. Tie-ups were formed between the representatives of 24 Indian hospitals and medical institutions and other stakeholders in the healthcare sector of Oman. Officials from the Ministry of Health, department of police, local hospitals and medical tour facilitators from Oman took part in the meeting. The CII Kerala team also had an opportunity to interact with ITHRAA, the public authority for investment promotion and export development in Oman.

“IMTEC 2018 was a great opportunity for hospitals in Kerala to showcase our services and attract medical tourists to the State. The event witnessed a good number of patients visiting the stalls for consultations and advice on wellness. I t appreciate the efforts taken by CII to organise the excellent meeting at the Embassy with the Indian Ambassador and officials from various departments. I am very positive that such business meetings can provide an excellent business opportunity for the members of CII,” said Saji Kumar.
