Kochi: Thirty-six houses are being completed at a very fast pace on five acres of land at Enmakaje Panchayat in Kasargod to ensure an early delivery for the victims of the endosulfan tragedy in the area. Virtually wiping the tears of endosulfan victims, Joyalukkas group is constructing the houses on land that the Government of Kerala set aside for the purpose.

Each house, 600 sq.ft. in area, is coming up on 10 cents of land and has two bedrooms, kitchen, hall and bathroom. The expense for a house is expected to be around Rs. six lakh and the total project cost Rs. 2.5 crore. Work on the housing project will be over soon and the keys handed over to the needy persons.

The houses are being constructed as part of the ‘Sai Prasadam’ initiative of the Sri Satya Sai Orphanage Trust. Apart from the 36 homes, a nursery, children’s home, children’s park, mini theatre and a healthcare facility are also being constructed in the village. The home owners will be selected from the government-recognised list. Joyalukkas village would be the second project under the Sai Prasadam initiative. The foundation stone was laid by the then Chief Minister of Kerala Oommen Chandy, while the completed village will be inaugurated by the present Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
