Thiruvananthapuram: Present-day startups are on a roll to overhaul tomorrow’s market economy. Celebrating the success of stories of Kerala’s startups is the pledging of unequivocal support to the community that is poised to take the state’s economy to unprecedented heights. Committed towards the cause, Destination Kerala will organise the first edition of Destination Kerala Startup Awards 2017 in Kochi on February 16 at Hotel Crowne Plaza Kochi at 6 pm.

The event hosted by Destination Kerala Business Magazine will be in association with TiE Kerala, Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM) and KSIDC. The main goal of the award programme is to establish an independent recognition platform to celebrate and honour Kerala’s startup successes. Knowledge Partner of the event – TiE Kerala – will solicit nominations/suggestions from TiE Kerala CMs, KSUM, NASSCOM, KSIDC, Vijayee Bhava and KAN. Watch Station is the gifting partner and Crowne Plaza Kochi has come on board as the hospitality partner for the event. Hotel Crowne Plaza Kochi has come on board as hospitality partner of the event.

K Ganesh, Serial Entrepreneur, Partner – and Chairman, Portea Medical will deliver the investor address. Adeeb Ahamed, Managing Director, LuLu Financial Group, Twenty14 Holdings and Tablez will deliver the keynote address. Dr. Christy Fernandez IAS (Retd.), Chairman, Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC) will do the presidential address. Dr. Saji Gopinath, CEO, Kerala Startup Mission will deliver the theme address. Althaf Jehangir, CEO and Executive Director of  SFO Technologies Pvt. Ltd. will deliver special address. Rajesh Nair, President, TiE Kerala; Executive Director – Markets (Kerala & TN), EY; Member – High Power IT Committee, Govt. of Kerala will present the jury report and announce the winners.

In a glittering event, awards will be presented under the eight categories – Startup of the Year ,‘Midas’ Investor, Outstanding Social Enterprise, Top Innovator, Best Rookie, Promising Comeback, Woman Champ and Bootstrap Hero. Startup of the Year award will be presented to the startup that has the greatest potential to become a mega corporation. ‘Midas’ Investor Award will go to the investor who displayed the ‘golden’ touch – be it successful exit or early investment. Outstanding Social Enterprise Award will be presented to the best startup that is solving our most pressing problem.

A startup which came up with an original idea that can be commercially exploited will be presented the Top Innovator’s award. Student or Campus startup with greatest potential to become a business will be awarded under ‘Best Rookie’ category. A failed entrepreneur who bounced back with a successful second innings will be awarded under ‘Promising Comeback’ category. Award for ‘Woman Champ’ will be given to a successful startup founded and/or led by a woman. A startup that has not raised capital, yet is showing signs of growth and potential for scale up will bag the award under ‘Bootstrap Hero’ category. There will not be any application for the awards as there are only nominations.

A jury appointed by TiE Kerala will evaluate and shortlist the award winners. Over 100 guests comprising startup entrepreneurs, senior government officials, reputed Angel investors and mentors, leading entrepreneurs, office-bearers of associations like TiE, G-Tech, KAN, KMA, CII and FICCI will attend the event. The jury members are:
