MPower, Centre for Differently-abled Children, Opened at Magic Planet


Thiruvananthapuram: In connection with the third anniversary of Magic Planet, The Academy of Magical Sciences, in association with UNICEF and Kerala Social Security Mission (KSSM), has unveiled a permanent performance centre, MPower, for the differently-abled children at Magic Planet here. MPower centre was inaugurated by Pinarayi Vijayan, Kerala Chief Minister, the other day.

In his inaugural speech, the Chief Minister said Magic Planet has set up a perfect example for the entire society by establishing a permanent centre for the differently-abled children. He said the State Government is determined to provide right education and proper treatment for these children at every stage of life. The government also aims at providing five per cent reservation in higher education and four per cent in government jobs for the differently-abled children.

K K Shailaja, State Health Minister, praised the efforts of Gopinath Muthukad, Founder and Executive Director of Magic Planet, and the Magic Academy team for its social commitment. Kadakampally Surendran, State Tourism Minister, presided over the meeting.

Speaking on the occasion, Gopinath Muthukad said differently-abled children are a valuable part of our society, but they remain as the most marginalised and vulnerable section. It is with the intention of boosting their self-confidence and making them aware of the fact that they are second to none in our society that MPower centre was set up at Magic Planet, he added.

Dr. Biju Prabhakar IAS, Secretary, Department of Social Justice and Dr. Mohammed Asheel, Executive Director, KSSM also participated at the event.
