KINFRA Textile Centre

Kannur: KINFRA Textile Centre (KTC) at Nadukani, Kannur has been developed by KINFRA with all modern facilities for the textile and garment industry. Textile industry enjoys a unique status as it offers substantial value addition at each stage of processing – from production of raw materials to the delivery of finished products.  ‘‘Kannur is known as the land of looms and export of handloom textile products has been taking place from the district over the past 50 years. It is against this background that KINFRA set up the textile centre in Taliparamba taluk about 30 km north of Kannur city,’’ says Wg. Cdr. K A Santhosh Kumar, MD, KINFRA.

Of the total 125 acres of land it holds at KTC, KINFRA has already developed 94.8 acres. According to Jeeva Anandan, MD, KINFRA International Apparel Parks Ltd., the main plot at KTC has been set aside for textile units. ‘‘Other plots marked as general zone will be allotted to various other industries, including those processing jackfruit; units manufacturing interiors of buildings; trussed roof and modular kitchen manufacturing units; factories making poly propylene sheets, rolls and covers; Rigid PVC pipe manufacturers; coffee and spice processing industries; plastic bottle-making companies; manufacturers of candles; coconut oil and coconut cake-making units; and those making bakery products,’’ he adds.

KINFRA will provide superior infrastructure for all types of industries, especially textile units. A dedicated 11 KV electrical power line with three transformer substations meet the power requirements of KTC. An intake well with Water Treatment Plant (WTP) provides good quality water. The waste management system includes Common Effluent Treatment Plant, Reverse Osmosis Plant and Evaporator. ‘‘The Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) System set up here is the first-of-its-kind in Kerala for the treatment of effluents from the dyeing and washing units,’’ says Dr. T Unnikrishnan, GM, KINFRA. A standard factory building with an area of 1,35,000 sq. ft. has also been constructed for use of textile and other industries at a nominal rent.
