Round-the-Clock Services Resume from Karipur Airport

Kozhikode: Round-the-clock operations began at the Calicut International Airport (Karipur Airport) on Wednesday after a long gap of 18 months, with a revised runway schedule.

The services of large aircraft, however, would remain suspended.

The runway was closed on May 1, 2015, to flights between 12 noon and 8 pm for re-carpeting, maintenance and installation of new landing and lighting systems. A new instrument landing system was commissioned at a cost of Rs. 3 crore recently after its air calibration tests.

Meanwhile, trade and travel bodies of Malabar region have welcomed the step. However, they expressed their protest against the continuing ban on services using wide-bodied aircraft.
