Greenfield Airport Project Gets Kerala Govt. Nod

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Government the other day gave in-principle approval for Greenfield airport to provide facility to Sabarimala pilgrims.
State-owned Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC) has been entrusted with the task of carrying out a feasibility study for the airport project.

At present, pilgrims numbering more than three crore annually reach Chengannur or Thiruvalla railway stations for their journey to Sabarimala using the MC Road or NH 47.
Though construction of Angamaly-Sabari rail line was under government’s consideration, paucity of funds and delay in getting Centre’s approval were delaying the project. The proposed airport will be able to find a lasting solution to the traffic problems faced during peak pilgrim season.
