Study Report on KTDC Revamp Submitted


Thiruvananthapuram: A report on restructuring Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC) prepared by The Institute of Management in Kerala, University of Kerala has made 45 recommendations to improve the efficiency of various departments, including Finance, Administration, HR and Marketing, and Operation of individual properties.

Dr. Rajan, Head of the study team and Dean, University of Kerala handed over the report to M Vijayakumar, Chairman, KTDC here in the presence of Balamurali IAS, MD, KTDC and G S Raj Mohan, Marketing Manager, KTDC. The report provides an action plan to increase the Corporation’s net profit to Rs. 10 crore in the next fiscal and also moots implementation of performance appraisal system and various motivation schemes for employees.

Speaking to reporters, Vijayakumar said KTDC, which has completed 50 years of operations, has decided to study its existing business model and performance to find out ways for enhancing the quality of its service and improve the effectiveness of its business operation in tune with the modern trends. “The 15-member Board of KTDC will study the report and implement the recommendations at the earliest. A 15-member team under the leadership of Dr. Rajan has submitted the report after conducting a detailed study for 20 months. The project cost is Rs. 13 lakh. The team has also held three rounds of discussion with trade unions as part of preparing the report,” he said.

According to Balamurali, hotels under KTDC recorded five per cent increase in rate of occupancy YoY. “However, like all other sectors, demonetisation has affected KTDC as well. There are cancellations. We will get a clear picture of the real impact in the coming months. Besides, closure of certain KTDC properties due to administrative reasons has also affected the revenue earnings in the current fiscal,” he said.
