Christmas Celebrations Held at SmartCity

Kochi: Underlining the importance of love and brotherhood, SmartCity celebrated Christmas by inviting three prominent religious personalities and organising various cultural events and competitions.

The celebrations began with the cutting of cake by Swami Purandarananda, Head, Haindava  Sevashram, Aluva; V H Aliyar Qasimi, District President and Central Committee Member, Dakshina Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama and Imam of Padamugal Juma Masjid and Fr. Francis Manavalan, member of CMI Church and faculty at Rajagiri School of Business.

Speaking on the occasion, Fr. Francis Manavalan said that Christ taught to find god in others and, if it is followed, the hatred and rift, which exist in the present world, can be resolved. Swami Purandarananda said that all religions place emphasis on love and brotherhood. V H Aliyar Qasimi cautioned people against the attempts to create hatred and rift among different religions.

Meanwhile, the number of employees at SmartCity will be increased to over 1200 with Baker Hughes and three other companies beginning their operations this month. The US-based Baker Hughes is world’s one of the largest oil field services company with presence in over 90 countries. “We know SmartCity is a happening place and we are proud to be here,” said George Joseph, General Manager, Operations, Baker Hughes.

Hundreds of IT professionals employed with the occupant companies, which are operating in the first IT building, actively participated in the celebrations. As part of the celebrations, various competitions such as crib tree making, carol singing and bake sale were organised. A special dance performance and skit by students of Little GEMS were also held on the occasion.

Dr. Baju George, CEO, SmartCity Kochi, said that SmartCity gives equal importance to entertainment and work and this kind of celebrations are organised in such a context.
