Green Carpet Initiative to Develop 79 Tourism Destinations


Thiruvananthapuram: A two-day ‘Green Carpet’ workshop, aimed at ensuring sustainable development and maintenance of 79 select tourist destinations in Kerala, concluded here the other day.

Managers, Deputy Directors and District Tourism Promotional Council (DTPC) Secretaries from selected tourism destinations in the State attended the workshop held here. The workshop chalked out a blueprint for 111 short-term and long-term projects.

‘’The 79 tourist destinations selected for the first phase of Green Carpet initiative will be turned into distinctive tourism-friendly centres,” said U V Jose IAS, Tourism Director, at the concluding session.

Prof. Raghunandan, IRTC; Dr. B Vijayakumar, Principal, KITTS; Prof. Saroop Roy and Roopesh Kumar, State Field Coordinator, Responsible Tourism, headed panel discussions on various topics.

Saraswathy, Additional Secretary, Tourism and V Madhusoodanan, Green Carpet Workshop Coordinator, also spoke on the occasion.
