Four-day National Cardiology Conference Inaugurated


Kochi: The four-day 68th National Cardiology Conference, organised by Cardiological Society of India (CSI), was inaugurated by C Ravindranath, Education Minister of Kerala, at Le Meridian convention centre here the other day.

Speaking on the occasion, he stressed the need for a balanced lifestyle especially in Kerala where there is an alarming increase in heart-related diseases.

The Minister said though the number of cardiologists is increasing, heart diseases continue to increase. So, it is important to focus on prevention of heart diseases, he said.

Dr. Manchanda and Dr. J P Das were honoured with Life-time Achievement Awards by the Minister on the occasion.

Dr. K A Chako, Chairman, Organising Committee, welcomed the delegates, invited guests, dignitaries and media persons to the conference. Dr. M K Das, Hon. General Secretary, presented the CSI report for the year.

Dr. Santhanu Guha, President, CSI, who presided over the function, congratulated and thanked the Kochi chapter for the ”outstanding preparations and arrangements made for the conference.”

The president-elect, Dr. H S Hiremath, outlined the future plans of CSI.

A book, Know Your Heart, edited by Dr. Geever Zacharia, which contains articles written by 143 cardiologists from Kerala, was released by the Minister at the function.

Dr. M Sashi Kumar, President, CSI Kerala Chapter offered facilitation.

Dr. K K Mohanan proposed a vote of thanks.

Around 5000 delegates from all over India and 200 from abroad are participating and presenting technical papers at the conference.
