Sermons from the rooftops continue unabated in India on the express need to liberate, empower and equalise the womenfolk of the country, roughly more than 50% of its population. Participation of Indian women in public life, in bureaucracy, in industry, in commerce, in the medical field etc all remain at abysmally low level, even as her vote and her back-breaking chores at home and in the agricultural fields help men to rule India and feed its millions. Few women dare break the gender barrier and shine forth on their own.
