Security Operations Control Centre Opened at Cochin International Airport

Kochi: The newly-established security operations control centre at Cochin International Airport at Nedumbassery started functioning the other day. It was inaugurated by V J Kurian, Managing Director, Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL).

The centre has been handed over to the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) which will run it.
The project has been completed at a cost of Rs.33 crore. Officials said 3,500 high-definition (HD) cameras with 1920X1080 resolution have been installed in and around the Cochin International Airport. The new security system will provide high resolution images allowing authorities to spot even minute objects at the airport round-the-clock.The control centre covers vital spots like the three terminals, runway, apron and airport premises.

The security control centre which can store 6.5 penta byte data is one of the largest in the country. It has 30 days of primary storage and seven days of redundancy mechanism. Around 300 km of data cables and 125 km of optical fibre cable were laid as part of the project. CIAL’s IT and Communication Department executed the project with contract patron HoneyWell. Sasikanth, Senior Commandant CISF; A C K Nair, Airport Director; A M Shabeer, Executive Director; S Santhosh, AGM; Sony Oommen Koshy, CSO and Sunil Chacko, CFO were present at the inaugural function.
