GST-related Issues will be Solved Soon, says Dr. M Beena IAS

Kochi: The initial problems with the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax will be resolved soon, said Dr. M Beena IAS, Managing Director, Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation Ltd. (KSIDC). She was inaugurating an interactive session on ‘GST Transition and the Way Forward’ organised by KSIDC here the other day.

“150 countries in the world have already implemented GST in one form or the other. Implementation of GST is hailed as the most important reform after Independence. It is a fact that there are some issues with the GST implementation. India is a strong federal and diverse nation and it is quite normal to have some problems during the implementation phase. In Kerala, Taxes Department is doing everything possible to allay the fears of the people. Coordinated efforts are being made by Centre, State and various business organisations for the smooth implementation of the GST regime. All the initial problems would be solved and everyone would feel at ease with GST soon,” Dr. Beena said.

She added that more interactive sessions on GST would be organised at various places in the State under the aegis of Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation. E S Jose, Director, KSIDC said the GST implementation has created some hiccups in the commercial and industrial sectors of the State. “The issues need to be addressed. Rather than creating controversies, we need to try to gain from GST,” he said.
