Thiruvananthapuram: The first meeting of the High Power IT Committee (HPIC) in Kerala, which met here the other day, deliberated on various issues like putting in place a structure for the growth of IT in the State, development of the IT digital infrastructure and the effort needed to bring about a radical change in Kerala’s IT industry.

The Kerala Government constituted the high power committee to promote Kerala IT in March 2017 with S D Shibulal, Co-founder & former CEO of Infosys, as Chairman and 10 IT industry leaders as its members.

The IT leaders welcomed the government’s vision for Kerala’s IT industry at the meeting, chaired by Pinarayi Vijayan, State Chief Minister, and assured full support of the industry towards the same.

M Sivasankar IAS, IT Secretary, on behalf of the government, explained the official plan to create a digital open IT network to host Citizen Services and ensure direct delivery of the same to the public. The meet suggested creation of a state-of-the-art IT infrastructure for the State that will help provide a digital lifestyle to its citizens, with the participation of all stake holders, including major IT players/industry stakeholders, enterprises and startups.

The Committee recommended setting up of a team of senior officials to drive corporate engagements that will help promote investments in the State. The team will provide seamless support for clients across various government departments and will be under the direct supervision of the Chief Minister’s Office. A final report detailing the action plan for the same will be presented before the next meeting.
