Allotment of Space at SDF Begins

Thiruvananthapuram: The Standard Design Factory (SDF) of KINFRA Small Industries Park, Nellad near Ernakulam is ready for allocation.

Spread over 2.03 acres of land, the five-storey building has an allottable area of 78,000 sq. ft. According to Dr. T Unnikrishnan, General Manager (Projects), KINFRA, companies which are non-polluting and require minimum amount of water for operations will be given allotment. The firm SGV Fluid Controls Private Limited has already been allotted space of 3250 sq. ft. Officials added that three more companies have expressed interest for around 30,000 sq. ft. on various floors.

The present monthly rent of the SDF building is Rs. 12.88 per sq.ft. (excluding service tax). There will also be a security deposit equivalent to one year’s rent, officials said.

The Small Industries Park is spread over 65 acres of land. Of the allotable 50.11 acres of land, 46.24 acres have been allotted to 67 companies, which include firms in the manufacturing, polymers, ayurveda and herbal extracts sectors, and agro-based units. They serve a range of customers, varying from the local population to those in the US. Officials said that apart from driving industrial development, the Park has transformed the sleepy village into a bustling town generating several indirect employment opportunities for the local people. “The village which has not had a single bank till recently now has branches of five nationalised banks,” Dr. T Unnikrishnan said.

Around 30 acres of the Park has been earmarked for projects in the food processing sector alone. Companies like Sara Spices, which produces ready-to-eat products, Dr. Warrier’s Panchakarma Institute, which brings out Dhathri brand of Ayurvedic products and Brahmins, the popular food brand, have set up units in the park.

The Park has an effluent treatment plant which uses a common drainage system to collect effluents. The plant has a capacity of 400 cubic metres.

The park offers infrastructure facilities such as water and power supply, and developed land. In addition to these, it has a cold storage facility having a capacity of 50 tonnes, which can be expanded to 250 tonnes.
