Kochi: Infopark’s latest IT building in the 2nd phase, ‘Jyothirmaya’, was dedicated to the State by Pinarayi Vijayan, Chief Minister of Kerala, here the other day.

Jyothirmaya, the 400,000-sq.ft. IT building, has been built in six acres of land at the notified SEZ area. The G+9-storeyed building is expected to provide employment opportunities to over 4000 IT professionals. The building has a separate 6-storeyed 150,000-sq.ft. block that will provide parking facility and space for other commercial activities such as banks, ATMs, food courts etc. 15 companies have already taken up space in the new building and the building offers spaces in small and big formats at the same time catering to small medium companies and big multi-nationals.

Inaugurating the new building Pinarayi Vijayan said, “With the opening of Jyothirmaya, we are writing a new development story for Infopark and Kochi. Infopark Phase 2 is being developed as an eco-friendly green park campus to ensure least carbon emissions. The first phase of Infopark houses more than 200 companies with over 30,000 IT professionals working there. With Jyothirmaya opening up, I am hopeful of a great development of Infopark and the IT sector in Kerala simultaneously. We are expecting an investment of Rs. 3000 crore when this project is fully completed. With the Smart City also coming up, this area will turn into the biggest IT corridor with over 500 acres only being developed for IT/ITES and also creating huge job opportunities. Infopark Phase 2 is envisaged as self-contained IT satellite city with all facilities such as schools, apartments, hospitals, convention centre, business hotels etc., promoting the concept of ‘Walk to Work’.”

The second phase of Infopark that is being developed on 160 acres land on the shores of Kadamprayar river has been envisaged as a ‘walk to work’ IT Township with built-up space for IT companies, and other facilities such as business convention centre, budget hotel, shopping complex school, hospital, etc. 102 acres of the project is being notified as Special Economic Zone (SEZ) by the Ministry of Commerce, Govt. of India. Cognizant Technologies is already operational with its first building. Muthoot Group has already launched its first international school – Sanskara in 5.25 acres of land allotted to them offers classes from KG to 12th standard.

“The campus with water frontage to Kadamprayar river, will have a total built-up area of 8 million sq.ft. when it is fully operational with direct employment opportunities to 80,000 IT professionals.” said, M Sivasankar IAS, IT Secretary, Govt. of Kerala in his inaugural address.

Infopark has already taken possession of 125 acres of land for Phase 2 development and 85% of this land has already been allotted to IT companies for setting up captive centres and IT infrastructure developers for building IT Parks. 11 companies have already been allotted land.

“One of the key highlights of the building would be that now people can also come to work on a boat through the Kadamprayar River. The boat service is presently available from Vytilla hub to Rajagiri and the Corporation is planning to extend the service till Phase 2 soon. Kochi Metro is also expected to be extended to Kakkanad in its second phase and with the Seaport-Airport Link, Infopark will be well connected and will be easy to commute for those who work here,” said Hrishikesh Nair, CEO, IT Parks Kerala.

P T Thomas, MP; VP Sajeendran MLA, K Mohammed Y Safirullah IAS, Ernakulam District Collector; Dr. Safeena IAS, Development Commissioner, CSEZ and Asha Sanil, District Panchayat President, Ernakulam were the other dignitaries present at the inaugural function.
