Taj Residency in Ernakulam is not merely a star hotel of excellence. It is a historical landmark. The high-rise edifice represents the statement of intent and resolve made by a determined government way back in the late 1980s to open up, to jointly venture out with the private sector so that a difference is established in the State’s approach towards economic growth. The administration that took the decision to invite the mighty Tatas into the tiny state and hand over the KTDC-built Ernakulam Marine Drive property to them as part of the Taj Kerala experiment, had Communist elements in it. It was finally good-bye to capitalists Vs socialist class war idiocy, and the beginning of the capitalist-socialist duet singing for a better tomorrow.
